Tecot Part of Team Studying Lemurs and Gut Bacteria
Research by a team that includes Associate Professor Stacey Tecot is making the news. Dr. Tecot is co-senior author of “Social behaviour and gut microbiota in red-bellied lemurs (Eulemur rubriventer): In search of the role of immunity in the evolution of sociality,” which was just published by the Journal of Animal Ecology. The article shows that cuddling lemur families share gut bacteria, and “could help researchers better understand how social behaviors impact the health of lemurs and other species—including humans,” according to this UANews release. The story has been picked up by Popular Science, Science Daily, and (less accurately) by the Tucson Weekly.
