Please refer to instructions from ORP for the most up to date information on the process, including all required forms.

School of Anthropology Instructions

For student researchers: departmental review of Human Subjects Research applications is no longer required. Instead, students must have their advisor review their application and fill out the advisor attestation form (available through the ORP website). The advisor attestation form also serves as departmental and scientific review.
If you have questions about whether or not your project needs approval, speak to your advisor and/or reach out to the IRB staff at ORP. Their guidance on What is Human Research? might also prove useful.

For Faculty PIs: departmental and scientific review is required of your application. Please submit your complete application as an email, with all required documents and forms attached, to the SOA Human Subjects Research Committee Chair for review upon completion. For academic year 2026-2027, the SOA Human Subjects Research Committee Chair will be TBD. Scientific and departmental review can take up to 10 days to complete. If you do not hear back from the Committee Chair within 10 days of submission or are submitting an application during the summer, please contact the Director.
