Ballpark Artifacts Offer Window to Bisbee’s Past

Just in time for the 2017 World Series, UANews shines the spotlight on Associate Professor Robert Schon’s current project at Bisbee’s Warren Ballpark. The country’s oldest continuously in use sports facility has yielded bottles, buttons, and even a bus token for Dr. Schon and students from Bisbee High School, Cochise College, and UA. The artifacts reflect the broad social spectrum of baseball fans over more than a century. The UANews piece, “UA Archaeologist Digs Back into America's Pastime,” has led to an interview for Dr. Schon with Mark Brodie with KJZZ in Phoenix; listen to the interview now. A story about the work at Warren Ballpark by Bridget Dowd of Cronkite News aired on AZPBS in Phoenix; you can watch it here. KGUN 9 is planning to visit the site in the near future too, and a link to that story will be posted on the SoA website with this one as soon as it becomes available.
