Smithsonian NMNH Fellowship for Byram
Ph.D. Student Jennifer Byram will be completing a ten-week research fellowship at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History through a predoctoral Peter Buck Fellowship. Byram will be documenting Southeastern archaeological, ethnographic, archival, and botanical collections related to Southeastern basketry and textile traditions and hosting virtual consultations with Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma artists.
In addition to receiving this prestigious fellowship, Jennifer is a sought-after speaker. She is an invited speaker in a Textile Society of America Colloquium panel titled “(re)claiming futures Session 1: (re)claiming Lost Traditions in Native American Textile Art.” The event will take place on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, 7pm EDT/4:00 pm PDT. Along with fellow panelist and Indigenous textile scholar Vera Longtoe Sheehan, Byram will present her work with Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma textile artists and discuss the renewing of Indigenous textile arts.
Byram has also been invited to participate in a panel on April 27 on Research Ethics and Shared Authority at the Bridging Research Praxes conference hosted by the Linköping University in Sweden.
