SoA Welcomes Summer UIR Scholar
The School of Anthropology is pleased to welcome Dr. José Luis Punzo Diaz as its Summer 2022 University Indian Ruin Scholar! Dr. Punzo, an archaeologist, graduated from the Escuela Nacional de Antropología e Historia (ENAH) in Mexico City, and holds a master's degree in science and humanities with a minor in history from Universidad Juárez del Estado de Durango as well as a Ph.D. in archaeology from ENAH. He is a member of the National System of Researchers level 2.
Dr. Punzo-Diaz has been director of the Museo de las Culturas del Norte in Paquimé, Chihuahua. Currently, he is a researcher in archaeology assigned to the Centro Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia-Michoacán, and has been director of multiple archaeological projects in the states of Durango, Chihuahua, and Michoacán. He has been responsible for the archaeological zones of La Ferrería in Durango and Tingambato and Tzintzuntzan in Michoacán. In addition, he has been responsible for the archaeological chapter for the integration of the dossier of the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro before UNESCO. Dr. Punzo-Diaz is a member of the Consejo de Arqueología.
Dr. Punzo-Diaz has published more than 50 scientific and divulgation articles and five books of divulgation and scientific research. His main lines of research are related to the archaeology of western and northern Mexico, as well as computational applications in archaeology.
