The UA Center for Middle Eastern Studies has awarded grad student Mine Egbatan CMES Internship and Research Experience Funding for research about “Disabled Women’s Activism in Turkey.” Mine was the Spring 2020 Dozier Award recipient. Congratulations, Mine!

Abstract: The Association of Women with Disabilities was founded in 2021 in Ankara/Turkey to struggle against the exclusion of disabled women from feminist agenda and state policies. To examine their advocacy policies, I will be a research intern in the association between June 1 and July 15, 2021. The association works with and for the rights of disabled women, builds alliances with diverse groups and creates projects to support the rights-based agenda of the association. As a research intern, I will be working for the association’s capacity development work where they engage with current and/or new members. I will participate into their meetings, help creating projects, and observe their relations with current and/or new members as well as feminist activists in Turkey. All activities will be virtual due to COVID-19.
