Ting-Yu Chou

Ting-Yu is a third year PhD student in Linguistic Anthropology from Taoyuan, Taiwan. She received her B.A. at National Taiwan University (NTU) in Foreign Languages and Literatures with a minor in Anthropology. Prior to joining the program, she worked as a research assistant in the archaeology lab at NTU for three years, where she excavated at sites throughout Taiwan and worked with indigenous communities. She also participated in the 2023 Agora excavation at Athens, Greece, and the 2025 Aguada Fénix excavation at Tabasco, Mexico.

 

Her broader interests in linguistic anthropology include topics on language ideologies, speech play, metaphors, and language revitalization. She is looking into conducting interdisciplinary research and combining strengths from both linguistic anthropology and archaeology. Currently she is learning one of the indigenous languages of Taiwan, Atayal, and have been participating in different community projects within the region. She is also a project coordinator of the Malawi base educational NGO Tiwact.

 

When life decides to act gracious, she spends time wandering (traveling?) around, writing short stories, learning new languages, and listening to talking people.
