Alum Borck (2016) Busy with Panels and Presentations This Summer

This summer has been busy for 2016 Ph.D. alum Lewis Borck. He recently started a term on the editorial board for the journal American Antiquity. In addition, he presented on “Sophisticated Rebels: Insurgent Archaeologies in the American Southwest” for Crow Canyon's lecture series in May (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8n0IXXCYu8) and gave a seminar on Anarchist Archaeologies to the School of Archaeology and Anthropology at Australian National University on May 13. He will be presenting a talk focusing on his work on historic evidence for an anti-oppressive social movement in the Gallina region of northern New Mexico for the Albuquerque Archaeological Society on June 15. On June 17, he is a panelist for the workshop “Disrupting Harassment: Teaching and Learning in Archaeology and Heritage” for the Teaching and Learning in Archaeology & Heritage virtual round table series (https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/disrupting-harassment-teaching-learning-in-archaeology-and-heritage-tickets-156661194851) with Dr. Barbara Voss and Dr. Kathleen Sterling. Finally, on June 24, with co-organizers from the Black Trowel Collective, he is organizing a virtual webinar panel on unionizing in North American archaeology with Dr. Veena Dubal, a well-known labor lawyer and academic; Samantha Easy, one of the union representatives from the archaeological union under in Ontario; Bryan West, who was one of the founders and union representatives for the now defunct United Archaeological Field Technicians union in the US; an anonymous contract worker and union organizer in the US; and Dave Schatz, who is a PI from a private archaeology and heritage company in Kentucky.
