Earlier this week, on Monday, May 17, the Society for American Archaeology presented their Fryxell Award for Interdisciplinary Research to SoA Regents’ Professor, Dr. Mary Stiner. Dr. Stiner was chosen “for her creative methodological and theoretical perspectives, international impact, innovative teaching, exceptional student mentoring, professional service, and contributions to interdisciplinary research in archaeology.” The SAA has released a video of the awards ceremony; view Dr. Stiner’s award beginning at about 19:55.

Dr. Stiner is the third SoA faculty member to receive the Fryxell Award. Dr. Vance Holliday was the 2018 recipient, for earth science contributions in archaeology, and in 1978 Regents’ Professor Emeritus C. Vance Haynes was the inaugural Fryxell awardee. (Anthro News Digest date: 05/21/2021)
