Special Notice for SoA Honors Student

Henry Gorton, an Honors senior in Anthropology and Religious Studies, was featured for the Honors Student Spotlight in January (sorry we just heard about this, Henry!). Henry’s Honors thesis advisor is the School of Anthropology’s Director, Dr. Diane Austin. In the question-and-answer piece, Henry describes the focus of his thesis:

My thesis research examines changes to the wording of the American Indian category on the 2020 Census. The new wording emphasizes that indigenous peoples of Mexico and Central America count as American Indian. My thesis will examine the potential consequences of the new wording for Native Americans as well as indigenous communities from Mexico and Central America.
