Yancey Orr’s (Ph.D. 2012) sushi was served at the White House last month! Yancey has worked with chef Bun Lai of Miya’s Japanese of New Haven, CT to create a cuisine based on invasive species, peri-urban foraging, and sustainability. Lai was given a Champion of Change Award by the White House. Yancey was credited as a co-creator. Their dishes were served at the awards ceremony.
