This special day raises awareness for lemurs, a unique and endangered primate species native exclusively to Madagascar
When
Friday, October 30 is World Lemur Day - a day aimed at celebrating lemurs and raising awareness for the risks this diverse group of primates faces. There are over 100 different species of lemurs, and about 98% of them face significant risk of extinction. Members of the Laboratory for the Evolutionary Endocrinology of Primates (LEEP) within the University of Arizona School of Anthropology are partnering with the Reid Park Zoo to table and raise public awareness about lemur conservation and current work being undertaken. You can read more about World Lemur Day on the Lemur Conservation Network Website, and come to Reid Park Zoo to learn from zoo keepers and LEEP researchers about these incredible animals.
