Watson, Bioarchaeologist, Associate Professor, School of Anthropology, and Associate Director of the Arizona State MuseumDr. James Watson will take us on an evolutionary journey from two million years to the present and tell the story of Homo erectus and how this species fits into our linage as well as the fascinating discoveries of their fossils. Homo erectus was the second hominin fossil species to be identified as the "missing link" more than century ago and continues to redefine our understanding on human evolution today. Dating to nearly 1.8 million years ago, H. erectus was an ideal mix of modern and primitive features, was the first recognized fossil species to leave the African continent, diversify, and populate most of the Old World. Homo erectus discoveries were also ripe with intrigue, murder, and mystery.
