Parker Scarpa
PhD Student
Parker is a first year Ph.D. student in Linguistic Anthropology from Sacramento, CA. He received his B.A. in Linguistics from Reed College in 2023, where his research centered on the performance of social identity and gender ideology in improv sketches. More broadly, he is interested in the role of style and performance in the perpetuation and subversion of linguistic and gender ideologies, social personae, and stereotypes. His methods are interdisciplinary, employing a mixture of discourse analysis, ethnography, and laboratory sociophonetics.
Outside of academia, Parker is excited to sample all the local food, climbing walls, and bar trivia Tucson has to offer.
