SoA Professor Takeshi Inomata participated in a conference on the ethics of ancient DNA (aDNA) studies, involving archaeologists, geneticists, museum curators, and indigenous scholars. The resulting statement was published in Nature last week with more than 50 coauthors listed in alphabetical order. The statement discusses diverse situations surrounding aDNA studies in different parts of the world and proposes context-sensitive approaches. Inomata has been collaborating with David Reich’s aDNA lab at the Harvard Medical School to examine the genetic history of Maya people. Inomata was interviewed by the KJZZ/NPR radio about this paper.
