About Kathleen Giles

I am an MA/PhD student in sociocultural anthropology, with a concentration in applied anthropology. I received my BA in Anthropology  from California State University, Stanislaus in 2016. My research interests include violence, transnational migration, social mobilization, and urban renewal. I have conducted fieldwork in the Western Highlands of Guatemala, where I explored the ways in which contemporary violence against indigenous women is engendered by the legacy of the country's 36-year civil war. My current research focuses on urban renewal and social mobilization in South Tucson, AZ.
