SoA Lecture Series: "Teaching Challenges and Difficult Discussions: A Conversation"

This lecture is intended for, and open to, graduate students whether or not they are currently teaching.
Join us for an informal discussion of how to handle challenges from students that might include everything from mildly inappropriate comments to blatantly offensive statements that need to be addressed in front of the whole class. There is also the question of challenges that are more frequently made to instructors who are graduate students/junior faculty and instructors who are young, female, trans, gay, BIPOC, etc. Finally, we will also address how to discuss inequality and political topics that may generate controversy and/or backlash.
