Mt. Lykaion: Cover Story, Student Funding, More

The cover story for Archaeology Magazine, January/February 2018, is an article on the Mt. Lykaion Excavation and Survey Project, “A View from the Birthplace of Zeus.” The project is a collaboration between the University of Arizona and the Arcadian Ephorate of Antiquities and is run under the auspices of the American School of Classical Studies at Athens. The Co-Directors of the project are Professors David Gilman Romano and Mary Voyatzis of the School of Anthropology and Anna Karapanagiotou of the Arcadian Ephorate of Antiquities in Tripolis. The excavation and survey project began in 2004 and is now in its second series of five-year excavation seasons that will continue through the Summer of 2020. To date 284 fully or partially funded student positions have been available for UA and other university and school students to participate in the project. Our applications are now open for the Summer 2018 season, June 14-July 31 and the following Parrhasian Heritage Park Field School, Aug. 3-11. For more information, see http://lykaionexcavation.org and http://parrhasianheritagepark.org or contact dgromano@email.arizona.edu and mev@email.arizona.edu.

There is a second cover story about Mt. Lykaion in the news in the December 2017 issue of GSA Today (Geological Society of America) by a UA Geosciences colleague of Drs. Voyatzis and Romano, former UA Provost George Davis. Read the article by Dr. Davis here.
