Field Schools: Project Location

Tucson is located in the heart of the Sonoran Desert. Staff and students will live in Tucson and commute from the university less than 30 minutes to the site three days a week.

Artifact analyses will be conducted in the Arizona State Museum’s Borderlands Archaeology Laboratory. Analysis of mapping data will take place in the Social and Behavioral Science’s Applied Spatial Technologies Laboratory, both on the University of Arizona’s campus.

Archaeological and historical sites at Casa Grande, Mission San Xavier del Bac, Tubac, and Tumacacori are all within convenient drives from Tucson.

Mexico is 60 miles to the south.
