Emilio Rodríguez-Álvarez, Ph.D. student in Mediterranean archaeology, has received several grants for summer research work and meeting assistance. The Riecker and the William and Nancy Sullivan Scholarship grants would allow him to participate in the 2012 season of the Mt. Lykaion Excavation and Survey Project, co-directed by Professor of Anthropology Mary Voyatzis and Karabots Professor of Greek Archaeology David Romano. Emilio’s research will be centered on the petrographic analysis of prehistoric pottery recovered from the ash altar of Zeus. The Graduate Student Travel Scholarship, on the other hand, will be used to travel to the Netherlands, where Emilio will present a paper on the technology and economic costs of the triereis (Greek warships) in the 13th International Symposium on Boat and Ship Archaeology in Amsterdam.
